Amanda Marochko is currently the Head of Strategic Partnerships at Buffer. Prior to joining Buffer, she was an International Growth Lead at Shopify, working with hundreds of entrepreneurs throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Before her time at Shopify, she was working at a joint venture between Google for Entrepreneurs and The Next Web, helping Dutch startups scale internationally, and international startups coming to The Netherlands. Aside from this, she's the Co-Founder of SheSharp, a foundation aimed at creating more diverse spaces within the Dutch tech industry. She's also the owner of MADE IN AMS, an ecommerce agency specialized in growing brands started by female entrepreneurs.

DevCorp: An interactive adventure

You’re a software development consultant called into DevCorp with a mission. What started as a hip, informal startup now has investor demands to meet. And they’re counting on you to help them become a scale-up. How do you grow the existing team and maintain the codebase?

This interactive talk, intended for any developer of any level, will give you some valuable technical and soft skills to take with you on your real-life professional journey. Using a voting system, the audience decides… and has to live with the consequences. Based on a mix of personal experience, agile methodology, and software design principles, this story has several possible endings.

April is a senior software engineer and cloud advocate for Microsoft specializing in datacentre modernization and application transformation. Her focus is advocating the cloud to customers and taking them on a journey to what is possible in the cloud. Migrating customers away from legacy methods into the new world of serverless and containers, where code comes first. April was previously a cloud consultant and solution architect for various partners in the UK and brings her years of experience in helping customers plan their journey. In April’s spare time she spends time outdoors hiking, skiing or scuba diving. She is also a triathlete competing in Ironman and Half Ironman triathlons.

I attended an event called Future Recoded at the Microsoft Reactor in London in the past and I wanted to share my learnings from a really interesting session on Ethics in AI. I know, I know, I hear you … ‘Urgh … yet another Ethics in AI session saying everything is malicious and software engineers/data scientists make so many mistakes. How do I make sure I don’t make these mistakes too?

That's what was so refreshing about this session, it took a different approach. We should absolutely discuss and analyze mistakes we have made in the past so we can learn to apply these powerful technologies for the good of everyone but this session opened my eyes to an interesting approach to ‘sense-checking’ your AI project, idea or even new business.

Join me in the session as I share a case study and a framework you may find interesting to use for your AI projects.

Amy creates and delivers content online and in-person and works with developers to provide the best product experience for them.

Saskia Freeke

Artist & Interaction Designer

Saskia Freeke is an artist, creative coder, interaction designer, visual designer and educator. Her work addresses structure, geometry, and playfulness. A significant part of her artistic practice is the ongoing daily art project she started in January 2015, in which she explores and experiments with generative patterns and animations. Saskia creates both digital and physical work. From the daily digital artworks she explores ways to make work physical with the use of digital fabrication. Think of laser cut structures from wood, laser cut paper, paint and printed designs. Saskia has been a lecturer in Physical Computing at Goldsmiths, University of London and taught in visual design and supervised student projects at the University of the Arts Utrecht School for Games and Interaction. At the moment Saskia works on her artistic practise and as a freelance interaction, visual designer and educator.
